Design South teamed up with McCrory Construction under a design-build arrangement to deliver a new office and operations building for Marlboro Electric Cooperative. The project concept was developed through a preconstruction phase, in which there were planned tours of buildings to better determine the client’s wants, needs, and preferences. From there, multiple floor plan options and 3-dimensional renderings were generated. This two-story 30,000 square foot floor plan offers spacious offices (some of which include small conferencing tables) for all employees, an operations room, small and large conference rooms, an assembly room attached to a catering kitchen with a separate entrance, a gym with restroom and shower access, a board room with large floor to ceiling windows, and an open lobby, and a customer support drive thru. As the building utilizes natural lighting, retractable window shades and blackout shades have also been incorporated.
The second building includes a commons area, truckbay, and warehouse. The truckbay was to be large enough to hold multiple and various size trucks as well as have access to the restrooms and kitchen to support their annual gathering. The commons area consists of truck wash and storage areas, and includes the kitchen and restrooms with access to the truckbay. On the other side of the truckbay is the warehouse which offers offices; a multi-purpose room that will be used for conferencing, training, and a breakroom; additional storage; crew office; meter testing areas; and receiving dock attached to the open warehouse.
